How to develop “Resilient Students”
Food for thought: possible discussion starter with colleagues
As educators how do we best go about creating an environment that helps children become resilient?
Recently the ASD-S Diversity & Respect team had the opportunity to hear Dr. Michael Ungar speak on “Resiliency” which is one of the core focus areas in the Province of New Brunswick Ten Year Education Plan.
In essence he was saying that resilience is “our ability” to respond to their needs. Check out his website at:
Nine Things All Children Need To Be Resilient:
- Parent-child connections
- Lots of strong relationships
- A powerful identity
- A sense of control
- A sense of belonging, spirituality and purpose
- Rights and responsibilities
- Safety and support
